Google to offers Visual Mobile Search (VMS). Image and context recognition service.
Indeed as make blog points out
It was only a matter of time before Google came out with a visual search product.
This has very interesting implication both to mobile application developers and the augmented reality people, since when Google releases the API for the image recognition (yes they intent to) augmented reality searches will no longer be carried out with geolocation but rather with context and image recognition. Therefore we can have applications that can work inside building (where no GPS beacons are accessible) and a new industry is coming to life. This is bind to an ontology and provides direct information that Google feeds to searches. The API will provide these information back to developers and implications and possibilities are endless.
First announced here in CNBC’s “Inside the Mind of Google” on 3 December.
